Some advice from our Calgary Engagement Photographers
Engagement photography sessions allow us to develop a relationship with our clients so that we can capture the connection and love they have for one another. They are also meant to be fun and interactive, making you comfortable in front of our camera! As experienced engagement photographers, we often get questions from our clients leading up to their shoot, everything from where should we have our session, to what should we bring, outfits, make-up etc. Here are some tips for making your engagement session unforgettable! ↠Check out our engagement photography gallery.
1. What look do you want for your engagement session
Establishing this is essential in order for everything to fall into place. Do you want the city lights as your backdrop, or perhaps an open field as the sun sets, snow covered mountains or a sandy beach? These are all important elements to consider as they really help mold and shape your session. Would you prefer a fun and playful side to your shoot, or a session with a casual feel at the beginning with a change to a nighttime session with edgy creative lighting? Most of our clients like to have two different looks to their session. We recommend having two outfit changes; a mix between casual and formal.
2. Bring personal elements that showcase who you are as a couple
We love to photograph engagement sessions at locations & places that mean something to you as a couple!! Do you enjoy watching Sunday football together, do you spend your weekends in the mountains, is your fur baby your world….or do you have a special coffee house that you go to regularly. All of these are elements of your relationship that can bring a fun twist to your session. Bringing your favourite jerseys to a football field, going to your favourite dog park with your puppy, or to the place where your fiancé proposed and sharing a picnic are all great locations that incorporate your connection!
3. Have your hair and make-up professionally done
This is a great thing to have done before your session. Investing in a professional is totally worth it and you could use your make-up trial on the day of your engagement session. This will also give you an idea of what kind of a look you will want for your wedding day.
4. Leaving time between your engagement session and wedding
We recommend having at least a few months in between the time when you have your engagement session and when your wedding will take place. This allows time for you to enjoy your images as well as allows sufficient time for products like guestbooks to arrive in time for your wedding day.
Remember that engagement sessions are a ton of fun!! If you need help with ideas/locations always feel free to ask as we have many in mind!! Also, take some time to look through past blog posts on engagement sessions to give you a few ideas on outfits, locations, and what to bring!!
